Anyone who’s been to South Africa even if it’s just once will have heard of the famous winelands towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
But there are many more lesser-known, smaller towns which have a great variety of offerings, for instance Wellington. This particular town has none of the over-marketed feel of its more famous cousins yet is less than an hour from Cape Town.
We particularly like the story of Chippa’s Shisa Nyama (a sisha nyama is like a large public barbeque with a bar): this one was started by Mr. Chippa himself who made some money as a ‘telepreneur’ (setting up mobile phone booths in former townships) and now runs this very successful and upmarket eatery.
Popular with all segments of South African society, you get a great meal and an even better welcome.
