Cape Winelands & Peninsula: Self-Drive Adventure

Whale watching on the Overberg coast

YOUR ADVENTURE BEGINS
DAYS 1 - 2 in Cape Town
Embarking on a Cape Town Discovery
Your Activities

You’ll start in Cape Town, learning through your guides how this remarkable city at the foot of Africa came to be the multi-faceted, cosmopolitan capital that it is today. You’ll have walking tours following the route of the slaves and their emancipation and also the twentieth century political history to be found on Robben Island and also what is now the waterfront area. There will be plenty of opportunity to visit local markets and sample the wide variety of excellent food Cape Town offers.

DAY 3 in Simon's Town
Exploring Cape Town's Coastal Wonders
Your Activities

Leaving the city behind on Day 3, you’ll drive in your rental car along the wondrously varied and resplendent Cape Peninsula, taking in the sights and sounds of the delightful seaside towns of Hout Bay, Llandudno, Kalk Bay and Muizenberg. The wildlife to be found along the Peninsula is a reason to visit on its own with the Cape Point Nature Reserve having large antelope, baboons and zebra among its residents as well as the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. You’ll be staying at the water’s edge in Simonstown.

DAY 4 in Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch Adventures: Wine, History, and More
Your Activities

You’ll head inland on Day 4 to the university town of Stellenbosch. Another walking tour of the verdant oldest part of town will reveal all sorts of fascinating facts and little-known places. Driving out of town for the afternoon, you’ll visit two particularly ethical wine estates and then come back to spend the night in one of the oldest hotels in the country.

DAYS 5 - 6 in Kogelberg
Nature's Playground: Kogelberg Biosphere Adventure
Your Activities

For Days 5 and 6 you’ll be visiting one of the largest wildernesses to be found this close to a major city anywhere in the world. The UNESCO Kogelberg Biosphere is less than two hours away from Cape Town but a world away in terms of wildlife, peace and serenity. With access restricted to those actually staying in the reserve rather than allowing day visitors, you’ll have two days to explore this vast area’s many gifts on foot and by bicycle.

DAYS 7 - 9 in Gansbaai
Coastal Wonders: Overberg's Marine Marvels
Your Activities

Your last two days of your journey see you driving along the magnificent coastline of the Overberg, stopping at attractions such as the Harold Porter Botanical Garden, the Stoney Point penguin colony and the myriad villages that this coastline offers. You’ll have a chance to go out to sea to spot the multitude of marine wildlife that this area offers including whales, sharks, dolphins and many marine birds. On your last day, you’ll drive back to Cape Town International for your onward flights.
