Welcome to the City of Gold or Jozi as it's known locally
Your Accommodation

Welcome to Johannesburg, the vibrant and diverse city of gold. Your adventure begins today as you land at OR Tambo International Airport, where a friendly driver from The Peech Hotel (B&B) will greet you and take you to your hotel in Rosebank. You will stay in a cozy and elegant Classic Garden Room, with a lovely view of the lush gardens.

Your Activities

On your first day recover from the flight by visiting the Goodman Gallery or Rosebank Mall or perhaps taking a tour on the CIty Sightseing Bus. On Day 2, you’ll be visiting the origins of democratic South Africa in Soweto and Nelson Mandela’s house. The following day you’ll visit the Constitution Hill site and the former prison there before heading out of the city to discover the very first hominids to walk the earth at the Cradle of Humankind and the Sterkfontein Caves. On your last day here you’ll visit the Apartheid Museum and enjoy a local meal in Alexandria township.

DAYS 5 - 7 in Victoria Falls

Your Activities

You’ll fly from Johannesburg this morning to Victoria Falls Airport. You’ll start with a guided tour of the falls themselves and the surrounding rainforests and then the next day, take a driven safari in the Zambezi National Park in the morning and in the afternoon a helicopter flight over the falls and a gorge swing, which is a huge adrennalin rush. The last day here sees you enjoying a ziplining adventure and you’ll round off your time in Victoria Falls with an evening dinner cruise on the Zambezi, watching the hippos and crocodiles as they retire for the night.

Your Activities

You’ll fly direct from Victoria Falls today to arrive in Cape Town in the afternoon. You’ll have the afternoon to rest at your lodging or explore the local area on foot. The next day, on Day 9, you’ll take a tour of Cape Winelands, formerly one of the most unequal areas of South Africa but now hosting a nascent black wine industry of makers, growers and owners. There will be some time for the children (and you!) to unwind at Boschendal with their Outdoor Experience. On Day 10, you’ll be taken on a tour of the Cape Peninsula (including the Cape of Good Hope, Table Mountain and Kirstenbosch) with dinner and a show at Gold Restaurant in the evening. On Day 11, you’ll tour through the fascinating villages of District Six, Bo Kaap and the Old Town with time in the afternoon to enjoy all that the V&A Waterfront has to offer. On Day 12, you’ll take a trip to the less affluent parts of Cape Town and come to understand the history and present of the former township of Langa through a full Gospel church service. In the afternoon you’ll also take a boat trip to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner. Dinner in the evening will be a at a local eatery in Langa. Day 13 is yours to spend as you choose, perhaps doing something active like sandboarding in Atlantis or paragliding across the Atlantic Seaboard from Signal Hill or alternatively enjoying a healthy dose of DNA (Doing Nothing At All), browsing the boutiques on Kloof and Bree Street and having coffee.

Your Activities

You’ve an early start to get to Accra the morning of Day 14. After taking a flight to Joburg, you’ll then take a direct flight from Joburg to Accra, arriving in the city in the afternoon. Another transfer takes you to the Kempinski Hotel (B&B), where you’ll spend the remainder of your stay in Africa. You’ve got a free day in Accra on Day 15 to recover from your travelling the previous day with a chance to see some traditional music and dancing this evening. On Day 16, you’ll tour the city centre sights of Accra – such as Independence Square and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park – before exploring the Makola Market in the afternoon, and also the Arts and Crafts Centre where you’ll get a chance to make your own fabric. Day 17 sees you visiting Kakum National Park that brims with unusual wildlife and the Cape Coast Castle, the site of slavery for which Ghana’s colonial legacy is famous.
