Your Okavango Delta adventure begins with a transfer from Tshilli Farm to Maun Airport, where you’ll board a charter flight to Delta Camp. This scenic flight offers aerial views of the Delta’s intricate waterways, lush islands, and abundant wildlife, setting the stage for the next phase of your journey. As you descend towards Chief’s Island, the landscape transforms into a pristine wilderness of lagoons, floodplains, and acacia-dotted islands, signaling your arrival in one of Africa’s most untouched ecosystems. Upon landing at Delta Camp’s private airstrip, you’ll be greeted by your dedicated private guide, who will accompany you throughout your stay, ensuring a personalized and immersive safari experience. A short boat transfer through the reed-lined channels of the Okavango brings you to the camp, where you’ll settle into your open-air chalet, ready to explore the wonders of the Delta.
You’ll start day 15 with a mokoro safari, a traditional dugout canoe excursion, where you’ll glide silently through the Delta’s crystal-clear waterways. This experience allows for close encounters with elephants wading in the shallows, hippos bobbing in the reeds, and crocodiles basking on riverbanks. The stillness of the mokoro safari makes it ideal for birdwatching, with opportunities to spot African fish eagles, malachite kingfishers, and the rare Pel’s fishing owl.
After a leisurely bush lunch, venture out on a guided walking safari across Chief’s Island, led by an expert guide. Unlike traditional game drives, a walking safari allows you to track wildlife on foot, observing the smaller details of the ecosystem—from animal footprints and medicinal plants to the intricate interactions between species. Encounters with buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and even predators like lions and leopards are possible, making for an adrenaline-filled and humbling safari experience.
Day 16 at Delta Camp is all about tailoring the experience to your preferences. Choose between another mokoro safari, a deeper exploration of Chief’s Island, or an afternoon spent at a hidden lagoon, where you can watch herds of elephants and antelope come to drink.
For those interested in local culture, there is an opportunity to visit a nearby village, where you can learn about the traditional lifestyle of the Delta’s indigenous communities, who have lived in harmony with this water-rich environment for centuries.
As your time at Delta Camp draws to a close, enjoy a final sundowner overlooking the Delta, reflecting on the unique connection to nature you’ve experienced in one of the world’s most pristine wilderness areas. Your Okavango Delta journey isn’t just about seeing wildlife—it’s about feeling the pulse of this magical ecosystem and becoming part of its timeless rhythm.
