The Tsodilo Hills majestically rise from the Kalahari scrub bush, exuding an unmistakable mystical aura that has long intrigued visitors. Revered as sacred, they are believed to house ancestral spirits, making it a profound place to explore. Archaeological findings spanning over 100,000 years reveal human presence, trade, and cultural exchange, with the San, Hambukushu, and Bantu inhabitants leaving their mark. The rock art at Tsodilo is exceptional, featuring unique red finger paintings and geometric designs that set it apart from other sites in southern Africa. The majority of the artwork is attributed to the San, while some is credited to the pastoral Khoe people. These paintings depict an array of animals, both wild and domestic, making Tsodilo distinctive in its own right. When you arrive at Tsodilo Community Campsite, you’ll find that camping among these ancient wonders is a unique experience. The campsite has large, spacious plots with braai place and ablution blocks. This lack of modern amenities adds to the charm, allowing you to connect with the environment in its purest form. The quiet atmosphere is very mystical also the absence of lights anywhere nearby brings the stars and night sky so close it feels like you can reach out and grab a star, not difficult to imagine why the Bushman of old regarded the place as sacred.
