Whilst there are many people and places offering horse rides in South Africa, Howard and Randal are about much more than just a ride. Their raison d’etre is to bring the horse-human relationship back into our contemporary way of living, not just for leisure and pleasure but also as a partner and friend in sustainable living.
As such, they offer horseback safaris which are as much about sustainable transport and conservation as they are about access to the Overberg’s many treasures, particularly its splendid nature reserves.

You can choose from day rides on beaches, mountains and the Klienriver valley filled with rivers and forests or go on overnight trails all the way from Hermanus to Cape Agulhas, learning about and helping in the conservation of the wilds that you ride through.

You can make your journey as wild and wooly as you like, camping under the stars with fully catered bush cooking or glam it up by resting your saddle sore legs and bottom in a collection of wonderful guestshouses along the way. We particularly recommend starting your trip on the shores of the Klienriver Lagoon at The Thatch House, whose palatial dimensions and sensational setting will make a perfect start to the trip. Prices start at R1 633 per person sharing per night ($114 / £91 / €110) and go up to R3 750 ppspn ($262 / £208 / €250) for enormous suites with lagoon views.
